Time for a change

For too long, equine welfare policy issues have been treated as feel good efforts that get some attention until another, more visible public issue steals the headlines.  Just look at our 21 year effort to ban horse slaughter and our 20+ year effort to bring reasonable reforms to the management and protection of our wild horses.  These are just two of the most high-profile efforts, with many more needing serious attention. What's more, we can't tell you how many times we have gotten calls from frustrated horse advocates asking why we can't ban horse slaughter given polls show over 80% support for legislation before Congress.

The National Horse Protection PAC will upend this dynamic.  The committee will work to identify new, humane federal candidates from across the country and help to educate the public on equine issues and where legislators stand on these issues.  It will also lend support to current legislators showing them, animal voters are well educated in the issues and demand to be heard.

Constituents will support reasonable legislation to protect America’s horses from harm while also promoting pro-active, sound, and effective policies without compromising their well being and quality of life. Horses mean so much to Americans, not only in recreation and sports of today, but the horse is woven into the very fabric of our cultural heritage—not only in the West but in the nation.
